Preschool

Class descriptions for Winter/Spring 2010. The following classes and activities are geared towards preschool children, aged 6 Months - 5 years.

Aquatics Parent-Child Classes

Shrimps (formerly Tag-Along) and Perch are parent-child classes for children ages 6 months to 36 months. Parents attend class with their child and join in all the activities. Lessons focus on water adjustment, safety skills for both the parent and child, and the fundamentals of swimming.

Shrimps
Water enrichment activities for one adult and child promote fun, water adjustment, exercise, boating and water safety. Songs, games and activities are used to promote confidence and independence and teach pre-swimming skills. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Perch
Not ready for preschool lessons? This class is for children who are not yet 3-1/2, but are comfortable in the water, or for those who are old enough, but not confident enough to swim without a trusted adult. This class promotes independence, cooperation, confidence and swimming readiness. The instructor gradually takes over while the adult takes a secondary role, in preparation for preschool lessons.  Aquatics Child Only Classes

PERS (Pike, Eel, Ray/Starfish) classes are for children ages 3 to 5 years old. PERS lessons build on Shrimp and Perch skills and also include stroke development, rescue skills, water sports and games, and moving the child toward independence in the water. Lesson groups are determined by the swimmer’s ability and age. Teacher:Student ratios are 6:1 for all classes except Extra Special classes which are 3:1.

Private Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons are available in a package of five 30-minute lessons. Contact Jesse Ricke to schedule: 797-3945, ext. 256. $110 Members / $220 Community.

Pike
Beginner - child will not put face in water and cannot float independently. This beginner course requires no previous experience in swimming. Children are introduced to paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Extra Special Pike

Eel
Advanced beginner - child can jump in the water and return to the side independently. In this level, they will become more independent, learning to swim longer distances. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Extra Special Eel

Ray/Starfish
Intermediate/Advanced - child can swim the width and length of the pool on their front and back. At this level, new skills include rhythmic breathing and diving. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Rhythm & Movement

Stepping Into Senses
Inspire the senses! Help your child explore multi-sensory activities as they build language, motor and social skills. Each session includes music, movement and hands-on activities. Rhythms & Rhymes
Learning through music helps in the mental, physical and social development of a child. This class takes you and your child through musical activities using simple instruments, scarves, hula hoops and most importantly ... your imagination! Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Move & Groove
Children will sing, wiggle, twist and whirl to a variety of tunes. Through music, movement and instrument play, your child will explore the space around them and discover new ways to move and control their bodies. Mom, Dad & Bee
This introductory class develops confidence, coordination and character with the help of Mom and/or Dad. This fun follow-along of basic tumbling practices is designed to increase strength, balance and body/space awareness. Instructors will focus on repetition and recognition of improvement. Tumble Bees (Level 1 Tumbling)
An introduction to our tumbling program. Improve your childs confidence, balance and coordination while learning basic tumbling skills. Introduction to balance beam, trampoline and bars. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Honey Bees (Level 2 Tumbling)
The second step of our preschool tumbling program focuses on repetition, terminology and body awareness. Participants learn basic tumbling skills and will use balance beams, trampoline and bars. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Stingers (Level 3 Tumbling)

Dragonflies (Level 1 Dance)
A dance class designed for beginners. Participants learn basic ballet, jazz, and tap dance skills as well as a simple routine. A great class for children that love to dance! Appropriate attire recommended. Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010

Butterflies (Level 2 Dance)

SPORTS

Dribblers Basketball
A Youth Super Sports Program which emphasizes basic skills, rules, YMCA values, teamwork and having fun with basketball! Players will learn how to play the game from volunteer coaches in a non competitive environment. Participants are placed on teams according to gender, age and school. All teams entering the league must be approved by the Sports Director. Certificate and medal are included in the fee. Participants must purchase a reusable YMCA jersey, good for all sports $4. Three Super Sports Camps
Join this mini-camp over the holiday break. Your child will learn skills in indoor soccer, T-ball and basketball. This is a great introductory class for your little one. We will teach the fundamentals of each sport with an emphasis on character development, sportsmanship and teamwork. We offer a non-competitive enviornment by using games, drills and activities that are both challenging and fun.

Little Kickers Soccer
Start your child out with a fun introduction to the most popular sport in the world! This program is designed to introduce preschoolers to the fundamentals and rules of soccer. Volunteer coaches will teach participants basic soccer skills. Certificates and medals included in the fee. Participants must purchase a reusable YMCA jersey, good for all sports $4. Putters Golf Lessons
Participants will learn golf fundamentals such as set-up, alignment, grip, stance and swing. Instructors will teach through demopnstration. Fees include balls and equipment duringthe lesson. (max 8 participants per class) Click here for schedule: Preschool Winter/Spring 2010
