Nicholas began his rowing career at Monsignor Bonner high school outside of Philadelphia, PA where he was born and raised. He went on to attend and compete for Penn State University where he earned a B.S. in Mining Engineering. He began coaching while an Undergraduate at Penn State working in the summer of 2013 with the Pennsylvania Athletic Club’s junior summer program as well as assisting with coaching of Penn State’s own novice program. After graduating from Penn State Nicholas went on to coach as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma City university where he earned an MLA in Leadership and Management with a focus on non-profit management. Prior to joining the YMCA Nicholas coached for two years with the University of Virginia’s men’s rowing program.
In addition to rowing, in the summer of 2014 Nicholas participated in Bike and Build, a non-profit group that raises money and awareness for affordable housing through cross country cycling trips. That summer he would ride from Providence, Rhode Island to Half Moon bay, California as well as participate in various affordable housing projects with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity along the way.
In addition to cycling Nicholas enjoys golfing in his spare time, and is an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
